A proprietary test client built into participating manufacturers' CPE, EdgeTrak combines JDSU's test expertise with Broadcom's Full-Band Capture technology. JDSU likens it to having a virtual meter in every home for the analysis of downstream signal quality. The benefit, as one Diamonds judge noted, is the "wealth of information that can be garnered from viewing a spectrum analysis from the other end of the network via a CPE device."
Specifically, Broadcom's Full-Band Capture technology enables the remote viewing of downstream spectrum as received at the CPE. In EdgeTrak, JDSU adds to this the ability to test for MER on all downstream digital carriers and the viewing of ingress under the QAM carrier. This provides operators the ability to differentiate between single-home issues and plant issues, leads to improved plant maintenance by prioritizing system sweeps, makes detection of LTE ingress or egress easier, and allows HSD customers to be prequalified for video self-installs.www.jdsu.comSee them at Cable-Tec Expo, Booth 864Return to the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews Elite.
