At CES 2018 in Las Vegas, Conax will be launching TVkey, jointly developed by its parent company the Kudelski Group and Samsung. TVkey is intended to enable consumers to get premium pay TV content, including 4K/UltraHD and HDR, directly on their TV set through a USB dongle.

It features a sign-up process similar to many OTT services, and the user experience can be customized by the TV operator via HbbTV and HTML5 frameworks. For content security, it uses a secure media path and the TVkey hardware root of trust as part of TVkey-compatible TVs and is integrated with the Conax Contego unified content security hub. It also complies with MovieLabs requirements for protection of premium 4K/UltraHD/HDR content with watermarking by NexGuard.

Conax TVkey is currently supported on Samsung Smart TV models, including all UltraHD and most Full HD TVs shipping worldwide. The product is expected to be available later this year.
