TeliaSonera supplies backbone services to Lycos Europe

10 February 2003 -- After an evaluation period of 5 months, TeliaSonera AB subsidiary TeliaSonera International Carrier AB (formerly Telia International Carrier) has been awarded a three-year cntract to supply backbone capacity for the Europe-wide corporate network of Internet portal Lycos Europe.

Lycos Europe's corporate network connects its headquarters and central data centre in Gütersloh with Lycos data centres in Hamburg, Paris, Copenhagen and Stockholm as well as major peering points in Amsterdam, London and Frankfurt. TeliaSonera IC provides the end-to-end connections with a bandwidth of between 155Mbit/s (STM-1) and 622Mbit/s (STM-4).

Lycos Europe says that, in the current market turbulence, it was seeking a reliable backbone supplier to substitute their former suppliers KPNQwest and Ebone. Most important selection criteria were financial stability, price and quality ratio, says Ralf Heydtmann, director operations Germany at Lycos Europe GmbH.

TeliaSonera International Carrier provides wholesale international IP, capacity and voice services to large customers at selected high volume destinations in Europe and in New York. Its services are based on the high-capacity European and trans-Atlantic Viking Network, the IP network with peering points in Europe and the US and international voice switches in selected destinations.

Following the merger between Telia and Sonera, TeliaSonera IC covers all international carrier activities within the TeliaSonera group.
