SunGard Trading and Risk Systems announced that Williams Communications has selected SunGard's Panorama for risk management of its entire portfolio, including trading and risk support related to bandwidth trading and network asset modeling. Panorama is believed to be the first software solution for trading and risk management that will be extended to support telecom assets, including physical assets.

Williams Communications owns, operates and is extending a nationwide fiber optic network focused on providing voice, data, Internet and video services to communications service providers. Williams Communications will use Panorama to model this network, currently spanning 33,000 lit route-miles with 125 points of presence. It will use Panorama to quantify, manage and optimize its network and other telecom assets, including bandwidth.

Panorama began as a cross-asset solution for trading, risk management, and processing in the capital markets and has been extended to integrate with SunGard's Epsilon system in order to bring the power and sophistication of the capital markets to the high-end energy industry. Panorama's support for the energy market is now being extended to support telecommunications trading.
