The frame agreement initially covers deliveries to Tele2 in Sweden, but can be extended to other European countries where Tele2 AB operates. Nokia will supply the SmartEdge 800 Router and related support services.

Ari Lehtoranta, VP, Broadband Systems, Nokia Networks, said, "This agreement underlines the success of the co-operation between Nokia and Redback, bringing together best-in-breed products, the skills of a dedicated, knowledgeable sales force and a customer-oriented support services organization."

The SmartEdge800 Router is targeted at IP edge applications such as dedicated access services, Layer 3 and Layer 2 VPNs and selective backbone core applications.

The router's support of virtual interfaces allows customers to switch between different types of VPNs. VPNs work in conjunction with the platform's unique virtual router feature to support separate IP address space, routing table, protected network traffic, and user authentication for each VPN.
