7 March 2003 -- Gigabit Ethernet fibre cabling will grow 30% by 2008, says a new market study.
The study, Gigabit Ethernet Fiber & Copper Cabling Systems, from FTM Consulting, forecasts that fibre-cabling will grow in excess of 30% during the next five years.
Furthermore, FTM foresees that by 2008 the Gigabit Ethernet market alone will account for over 70% of the total premises fibre cabling system shipments.
The study identifies developing applications for Gigabit Ethernet cabling systems, and forecasts the cabling product shipments for each of these applications.
Besides the backbone riser and future FTTD horizontal cabling applications, the study segments three other emerging horizontal cabling applications, which will primarily use the newer multimode fiber cabling.
The report divides the levels of expected activity by different ranges of gigabit speeds: up to 1Gbit/s; 10Gbit/s; and 10-100Gbit/s.
Cabling architecture descriptions and cabling product forecasts provided by major developing horizontal cabling applications:
- Storage Area Networks
- Switch-to-Switch
- Fibre-to-the-Zone
