Nera and CRAI, a public telecommunication operator in Italy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNAI, a national lottery and betting company have signed a contract regarding a new communications network. Nera will supply the equipment requested for the implementation of two of the main branches of the network. The value of the contract is 50 MNOK and includes the first two phases of the network.
CRAI has decided to establish a new dedicated SDH communication network for its business, covering all of Italy. The CRAI network will support all services in the field of telephony and services for fixed networks�such as Internet Access, ADSL and so on�as well as the support of the services of the group leader SNAI.
Currently, SNAI is the fifth largest customer of Telecom Italia. The purpose is to improve quality and capacity for SNAI's online betting service and supply of telecommunication services to other customers. In addition, CRAI can take advantage of the backbone for the interconnection with Telecom Italia with an own radio link network. The first two phases in the project includes a new backbone network from Milan to Rome and Naples. Nera will deliver high-capacity SDH radio equipment and services, including the management of the rollout of the network.
The contract is Nera's first substantial contract in Italy for this type of product.
