Plaintree Systems Inc., a developer and manufacturer of optical wireless communications products, today announced it is expanding its Wavebridge family of optical wireless links with the introduction of the Wavebridge 600 Series. The Wavebridge 600 Series will offer 100-Mbit/sec Fast Ethernet and OC-3 (155 Mbit/sec) optical wireless communications.

"The input that we have been receiving from customers and our VAR partners is very valuable and is enabling Plaintree to identify and meet new market opportunities," said David Watson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Plaintree. "We have learned that at least 70% of our potential customers have an immediate need for a Fast Ethernet/OC-3 optical wireless solution with less sophisticated features than those that will come with the Wavebridge 700 series. "

In addition, Plaintree has enhanced its Model 500 Series of 10-Mbit/sec LED links based on feedback from its customers and VARs partners. The enhancements to the Model 500 Series will enable them to meet additional international certification standards as well as meet performance and other requirements cited as important by current and potential customers in various global markets.

"We have responded to our customers by focusing on the development of the Wavebridge 600 Series as well as by making modifications and enhancements to the 500 Series. We expect to release the 600 series for evaluation this summer. Reflecting this current focus, as well as the progress we are making on the testing and development of the 700 Series, the launch date of the 700 will be determined by the continuing progress of our testing and customer feedback," says Watson.

The Wavebridge family also includes the 300 Series, a lightweight, easily transported design, intended for indoor and outdoor, small-office applications, ideal for special event and emergency applications.

Ottawa-based, Plaintree Systems Inc., founded in 1988, develops and manufactures the Wavebridge series of optical wireless links using Class 1, eye-safe LED technology.
