Marconi (London, NASDAQ: MONI), a global provider of advanced communications solutions, has signed a three-year optical networking contract with Telecom New Zealand. The agreement establishes Marconi as a Strategic Vendor to the Telecom New Zealand Group.
The contract will bring Telecom New Zealand and Australian based AAPT onto a common infrastructure platform, realizing significant operational efficiencies and cost reductions for the combined group's data-centric networks. At the heart of the contract is Marconi's SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) technology, which will enhance Telecom New Zealand's core transport and access networks by delivering enhanced functionality, performance and cost.
As part of the SDH-based solution, Marconi will also provide its "ServiceOn Transport" management system. This software package allows Telecom New Zealand to view the whole network from the highest level right through to the customer's data socket. Additionally, Marconi is integrating into this network management system most of Telecom New Zealand's existing SDH network.
Marconi will provide Telecom New Zealand Group with optical solutions for connectivity of their customers that will drastically improve the flexibility of the network to react to change. This benefit is delivered through the products' modularity and "point and click" provisioning. The Marconi solution allows Telecom New Zealand to integrate core and access network provisioning into the transport layer and consequently reduce operational and capital costs and improve their time to market. Marconi's competitive time-to-market logistics process also forms an important part of the contract.
