ESB Telecoms touts success with Transmode TM-Series

Nov. 29, 2007
NOVEMBER 29, 2007 -- Irish regulator ComReg has ranked Transmode customer ESB Telecoms as the market leader in the Irish leased line market with a 46.2% market share, followed by Eircom (40.4%) and BT Ireland (13.4%). ESBT's Irish national and Dublin metro networks have been lit with the Transmode TM-Series multi-reach WDM platform.

NOVEMBER 29, 2007 -- Transmode (search for Transmode) today announced that its customer, ESB Telecoms, an independent provider of wholesale telecommunications services in the Irish market, has achieved the highest market share in the Irish Trunk Market.

The recent "Leased Line Market Report" from Irish regulator ComReg studied the competitive environment in the Irish leased line market and concluded that ESB Telecoms (ESBT) had achieved rapid growth since its previous report and held a 46.2% market share by capacity versus 40.4% for Eircom and 13.4% for BT Ireland. This growth suggests that ESB Telecoms' entry into the national backhaul market has been a genuine enabler to competition in Ireland.

ESBT's Irish national and Dublin metro networks have been lit with the Transmode TM-Series multi-reach WDM platform. According to Transmode, the TM-Series provides ESBT with a flexible and scaleable WDM platform that supports rapid service delivery coupled with high network resilience. The network is built using 2.5-Gbit/sec and 10- Gbit/sec wavelengths and supports SDH and Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) traffic in addition to other protocols.

"With our focus on high-capacity services, rapid service delivery and carrier-class operation are critically important to ESB Telecoms," explains Tom Bambury, ESBT's sales and marketing manager. "The Transmode TM-Series provides our team with the ideal platform to reliably and economically build such services, which have enabled the company to take this leading market share so quickly with a large number of prestige customers."

The Transmode TM-series Multi-reach Optical Platform provides users with a common set of C/DWDM transponders and muxponders over a range of three chassis options from high-capacity 10u chassis to 1u chassis for access nodes, say Transmode representatives. The TM-Series supports a range of single- and dual-fiber configurations, providing transport and access for regional and national networks to metro and campus networks.

"This market share data is great news for ESB Telecoms and superb validation of their business model and choice of Transmode as their optical networking supplier," adds Björn Andersson, Transmode's vice president of sales. "The rapid growth to this market-leading position is also testament to the hard work of all the ESB Telecoms team, and we naturally wish them continued success in the future."
