AMS-IX and network and cloud operator Quanza say they will collaborate to upgrade the switching platform that supports the AMS-IX internet exchange. The two will start work with the facilities in their shared hometown of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. That upgrade will provide improved platform connectivity at 16 colocations in that country.
The years-long upgrade effort will see the deployment of Juniper Networks’ MX routing platform with 400G ports. The routers support open standards and the collaborators say will be compatible with the new orchestration and automation tools that AMS-IX is developing. Quanza will oversee platform delivery and provide 24x7 monitoring. The company has provided AMS-IX with “NOC as a Service” capabilities over the past seven years.
"Internet traffic continues to increase with an annual growth rate of approximately 20%," commented Ruben van den Brink, CTO of AMS-IX. "AMS-IX is continuously investing in the capabilities and capacity of its platform to facilitate this growth. Today, we announce an important step to future-proof our platform."
"We noticed an unprecedented 35% increase in traffic at AMS-IX at the start of the pandemic," added Frans ter Borg, CEO of Quanza. "A defining moment where you realize network scalability has a profound impact on people’s everyday lives."
