DE-CIX opens internet exchange in Finland

May 31, 2023
DE-CIX and Nokia used the milestone to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their relationship during an event at Nokia’s headquarters in Espoo, Finland.

Internet exchange (IC) operator DE-CIX has announced its new IX in Helsinki, Finland, is ready for service. Users can access the new IX capabilities now via Equinix’s data centers in Helsinki (HE-CIX), with additional enabled sites expected to become available in the future. DE-CIX and Nokia used the milestone to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their relationship during an event at Nokia’s headquarters in Espoo, Finland.

The Helsinki IX will provide direct access to more than 50 clouds, greater than 2000 local and international networks, and more than 250 data centers in Germany, Southern Europe, the USA, and Asia. The DE-CIX Apollon interconnection and cloud platform provides the foundation for this connectivity, which includes DE-CIX’s InterconnectionFLEX service, which provides enterprises with a holistic interconnection package for cloud connectivity, virtual private network interconnects, and peering.

DE-CIX has announced expansion plans in the Nordics via two new IXs in Denmark. The IX services provider also recently announced two locations in Norway are ready for service as well.

The company relies on Nokia as a technology supply partner, the DE-CIX and Nokia acknowledged in Espoo. For example, DE-CIX leverages the latest Nokia 7750 SR-14s models, featuring FP4 silicon, in its flagship Frankfurt IX (see "DE-CIX upgrades Frankfurt internet exchange with Nokia routers").

“Having worked for over a decade to drive our global expansion – with Nokia always responding to the specific regional needs and requirements with world-class hardware – we’re delighted to bring our future-proof interconnection services to Nokia’s homeland of Finland,” commented Dr. Thomas King, CTO of DE-CIX. “As we provide local and internationally acting enterprises with a modern, scalable infrastructure to gain control of their business-critical data journey, we are pleased to continue to have Nokia as a trusted partner. We are looking forward to our joint response to tomorrow’s world, where emerging technologies such as the future digital applications for the immersive Internet are also already defining the new standards for latency, data security, and redundancy.”
