May 21, 2024
By highlighting its sustainability milestones, Scala hopes to drive environmental awareness in the industry.

Scala Data Centers released its 2023 Sustainability Report on May 16. The report details the company’s sustainability journey, including its approach to enhancing hyperscale data center sustainability across Latin America.

Scala’s sustainability initiatives include using cooling systems that minimize water and energy usage, using 100% renewable and certified energy, and implementing a robust recycling program. The company also recently accepted the role of Sustainability Sponsor at International Telecoms Week (ITW).

Scala Data Centers co-founder and CEO Marcos Peigo said in a press release, “At Scala Data Centers, our mission is to propel Latin America forward sustainably, delivering value to our stakeholders while prioritizing the needs of our customers, employees, and the broader community. By releasing our annual sustainability report and partnering with one of the most influential telecom events worldwide, Scala keeps its promises and demonstrates that sustainability isn’t just a concept at Scala—it’s ingrained in us and drives our business forward.”

Scala Data Centers has 12 operational sites, with several more under construction or in development. The company currently boasts over 80MW in operational IT capacity, plus an additional 900MW under construction and development.

Scala reports that its new buildings feature future-proof designs that enable densities ranging from 24kW per rack to 100kW per rack.
