German internet hosting and interconnection services provider Core-Backbone has deployed Infinera's (NASDAQ:INFN) Cloud Xpress 2 terabit-scale data center interconnect (DCI) between six cities in Europe. The company previously deployed the Infinera Cloud Xpress to offer 100-Gbps services between Frankfurt and Nuremberg.

Core-Backbone delivers Internet Protocol (IP) transit, Layer 2 connectivity, and remote peering interconnection services to internet exchanges across Europe. Use of the Cloud Xpress 2, featuring Infinera's Infinite Capacity Engine, will add multiple terabits per second of capacity between the six cities and several others, including Amsterdam, Vienna, and Munich.

"Since our original deployment of Cloud Xpress, Core-Backbone's expansion has continued to accelerate and we are seeing unprecedented demand for connectivity between our points of presence in the large internet exchange sites," said Daniel Maresch, Core-Backbone CEO. With almost five times the density of the original Cloud Xpress and Infinera's Instant Bandwidth capabilities, Maresch says Core-Backbone can software-activate line-side bandwidth in 100-Gbps increments, and meet such demands via the Cloud Xpress 2.
