ZTE Corp. has signed a frame agreement with privately owned Gigaclear Ltd. to bring high-speed broadband to selected rural communities in the UK. This partnership sees ZTE provide Gigaclear with the core network equipment necessary to deliver next-generation broadband via point-to-point optical fiber, offering up to 1-Gbps Internet fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connections to rural homes and businesses.

"Our focus is to target areas overlooked by many traditional internet service providers, areas where there is demand for secure, high-quality internet connections," said Matthew Hare, CEO, Gigaclear. "ZTE has provided us with the necessary equipment to offer the same high-speed broadband Internet connections typically found in city centers."

ZTE will provide Gigaclear with M6000 Series carrier-grade core routers; ZXONE8300 and M721 core and metro DWDM/OTN equipment; ZXR10 8900 Series terabit MPLS switches; and its NetNumen U31 network management system.

"Partnering with Gigaclear enables ZTE to fulfill its commitment to delivering advanced internet access and an enhanced user experience across the UK," said Jim Jing Hui, managing director, ZTE UK. "By leveraging Gigaclear’s deep understanding and best practice of delivering fiber-to-the-home, ZTE and Gigaclear have begun rolling out fast, cost-efficient, and high-quality networks to rural communities."

Matthew Hare goes on to say, “This partnership is a milestone in Gigaclear’s long-term strategy. Partnering with a world-leading vendor delivering carrier-class network infrastructure enables Gigaclear to deliver faster, high-quality connectivity throughout the UK and deep in to rural communities.”
