JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU; and TSX: JDU) has added the ability to perform tests over VDSL2 networks to its SmartClass Triple-Play Services (TPS) handheld tester.

The features enable technicians to identify potential copper impairments such as disturbers, bad joints, or bridged taps using DSL QLN and Hlog graphs. The one-button Pass/Fail CableCheck functionality includes balance testing and good ground check capabilities, JDSU adds.

The SmartClass TPS can now be used to test all broadband triple-play services using an all-in-one tool for copper, fiber, POTS, ADSL2+/VDSL2, IP data, VoIP, and IP video, JDSU asserts. The tool includes a web browser, multiple HDTV streams, VoIP emulation G.722 call controls, fiber test, result file transfer, a customizable user interface, and field upgrades via USB Host 2.0 interface.
