Norscan lists fiber optic network cable management products for broadband Recovery Act use
FEBRUARY 12, 2010 -- Norscan Instruments Ltd. in Winnipeg, Manitoba, has qualified to list its portfolio of fiber optic network cable management products for use in projects funded under the broadband Recovery Act, a U.S. government initiative to expand broadband access to unserved and underserved communities.
The Recovery Act appropriated $7.2 billion for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) to help expand broadband access to rural areas across the U.S.
"RUS acceptance means we can offer the same tools that have managed some of the largest networks in the world for nearly 30 years to a new group of customers and help them extend broadband services in new communities," says Ken Sontag, Norscan's chief executive officer.
"Our products help our customers dramatically reduce the cost of their field operations, so RUS borrowers will be able to conserve cash during the construction phase, and benefit long term from lower cost of ownership," Sontag says.
