FEBRUARY 25, 2010 -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) says that LLC “Velton.Telecom” Ltd., a private Ukrainian operator providing fixed communication services across 14 cities of the central, eastern, and western parts of Ukraine, will launch a field trial of IPTV services to business and residential subscribers in Kharkov and Poltava. Alcatel-Lucent adds it has been selected as the network integrator, using the Microsoft Mediaroom platform and providing professional services - including project management, consulting, network design, installation, software integration, commissioning, and operations.
The IPTV field trial leverages a previously deployed IP/MPLS and GPON network. The commercial launch of the IPTV service is expected on the second half of 2010.
“The IP/MPLS and broadband access capabilities from Alcatel-Lucent’s solution enable us to stay in line with the service transformation processes that we see as vital in our market, as we now introduce IPTV services. Subscribers require simple and easy access to advanced, content-rich communication services, and operators need flexible and reliable platforms to respond to this demand,” said Anatoly Protsyuk, the chairman of Velton.Telecom.
Alcatel-Lucent is providing its end-to-end GPON offering based on the Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ISAM FTTU in combination with the 5520 Access Management System. It also leverages its 1540 Litespan MSAN product, the Alcatel-Lucent 7324 ISAM Remote Unit, and SAM and SSC management systems.
To establish a core and distribution network, Alcatel-Lucent will also provide its IP/MPLS service routing solution based on the Alcatel-Lucent 7450 Ethernet Service Switch and the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router.
