TXP and Tellabs team for faster access upgrades

Nov. 13, 2007
NOVEMBER 13, 2007 -- TXP will develop a series of retrofit kits that will enable Tellabs to upgrade remote outside plant cabinets with the Tellabs 1134 Multiservice Access Platform.

NOVEMBER 13, 2007 -- TXP Corp. (search for TXP), an original design manufacturer (ODM) for the telecommunications industry, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Tellabs (search for Tellabs) to develop a series of retrofit kits for Tellabs access systems. The kits will enable Tellabs to upgrade remote outside plant cabinets with the Tellabs 1134 Multiservice Access Platform (MSAP).

With the TXP kits, Tellabs Global Services says it will be able to meet customer needs more quickly. Instead of replacing current cabinets, Tellabs can upgrade them, saving both time and money for service providers.

Replacing a remote cabinet is a lengthy and costly process. It typically involves buying a new cabinet; installing a concrete pad; and re-negotiating rights-of-way and power service. And that's just the start, say TXP representatives. Then the provider must rent a temporary cabinet for cutover traffic while the new cabinet is installed, which often involves a crane. TXP's retrofit kits combined with Tellabs' expertise, by contrast, can upgrade a customer's cabinet in as little as a few hours, say the companies.
