SEPTEMBER 11, 2007 — KPN chose the Genexis fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) gateway for its FTTH roll-out, citing broadband multi-service compatibility of the Genexis FiberXport gateway. The product is designed for in-home installation and converts signals on a fiber-optic cable to multi-play services such as broadband internet, voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephony, and television.

KPN serves more than 6 million voice lines and 2 million broadband internet connections in the Netherlands. The company plans to roll out FTTH in greenfield areas and in specific project locations, says John Quist, VP of All IP, KPN. The gateway KPN will deploy provides each user with a connection of 100 Mbit/sec. for multi-play services. The contract win came from a combination of multi-service broadband, effective network management, and ease of installation, says Gerlas van den Hoven, managing director of Genexis. For its home gateways, Genexis partners with U.S.-based chip-maker Ubicom.
