MAY 22, 2007 -- New Global Telecom (NGT; search for New Global Telecom), a provider of wholesale hosted and trunk-based VoIP services, has announced the signing of MSTAR (search for MSTAR) and the migration of its more than 5,000 end users to NGT's wholesale VoIP services platform.

NGT labels MSTAR "Utah's largest and fastest growing fiber-optic service provider and the nation's second largest licensed IPTV provider." MSTAR will use NGT's wholesale VoIP telephony services to support the expansion of its triple-play services (Internet, telephone and television) and related communications into the household and small- to medium-sized business (SMB) marketplace.

"NGT and our Wholesale VoIP platform is a perfect match for MSTAR's aggressive yet intelligent approach to the consumer and SMB VoIP marketplace," said John Guillaume, senior vice president, product and marketing for NGT. "MSTAR's selection of the NGT platform further validates NGT's leadership position in delivering value to service providers seeking VoIP services."

Over the past year and a half, MSTAR has changed its business model to provide services to Provo's city-wide fiber-optic network as well as UTOPIA, the state-wide fiber-optic network, according to NGT. These changes included improving its engineering staff, adding IP telephony and television services, and creating an infrastructure for support and billing.

"Not only was the transition of our end users smooth and seamless, but NGT actually supported us in our transition to this new business model," said Tim Brown, MSTAR's chief technology officer. "The NGT team clearly understands what it takes to be successful delivering VoIP services, and they have positioned themselves as a key player in support of our triple-play services on the iProvo and UTOPIA networks and our expansion into the SMB marketplace."

iProvo (search for iProvo) is a municipally owned and operated, city-wide, fiber-optic network located in Provo, UT. It provides an infrastructure to make voice, video and Internet service available to every home and business in the Provo community. UTOPIA (search for UTOPIA) is a coalition of 14 Utah cities that have joined together to create a robust fiber-optic network.
