Ledcor Industries Ltd. (Vancouver, BC, Canada) signed a long-term, $60 million contract with Pirelli Cables and Systems North America (Columbia, SC) for the supply of Pirelli fiber-optic cable. The fiber cable will be installed on the TransCanada fiber-optic network running from Vancouver, BC, to Toronto, ON, for a total length of more than 4300 km. The Pirelli cables will be manufactured in the company?s Lexington, SC, and Surrey, BC, facilities. The project is targeted for completion in 1998.

Varian Associates (Palo Alto, CA), a diversified high-technology manufacturer, will upgrade the fiber-optic backbone at its Varian Tempe Electronics Center using Bay Network?s (Santa Clara, CA) Accelar 1200 routing switches. The switches will be installed at Varian?s Tempe, AZ, electronics manufacturing facility to support the company?s future integrated multimedia applications and expanded performance needs. The electronics center produces custom printed circuit boards and recently added 80,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing and office space to its facility.
