SEPTEMBER 4, 2007 — Pacific Crossing Limited (PCL) signed Fujitsu Limited to increase its trans-Pacific submarine (PC-1) network, adding an additional 200 Gbps of capacity to each of the PC-1 network's four segments.

PCL's PC-1 system will be lit to at least 390-Gbps capacity on each segment by Q'01 2008. PCL can also exercise a 100-Gbps optional upgrade, wherein Fujitsu will bring capacity per segment up to 490 Gbps by Q'02 2008. Terumi Chikama, executive VP, telecom business group, photonic systems, Fujitsu, cited global deployment and proven performance of the company's advanced FLASHWAVE S650 submarine wavelength divisional multiplexer as reason for the upgrade contract win. The agreement includes ensured reliability; Fujitsu will maintain data-transmissions integrity through thorough configuration testing.

The Fujitsu upgrade represents a near-doubling of PCL's trans-Pacific capacity, noted Roderick Boss, CEO, PCL. The PC-1 upgrade is in response to rapid U.S.-to-Asia internet communications growth. PCL's network connects the U.S. to Japan with 21,000-km fiber optic cables.
