Kinetic, Windstream’s broadband services arm, says it now offers the new 2 Gig Kinetic Fiber service “in select residential markets” it did not identify. The company says it plans to expand the availability of the service to other residential and business customers in the future, as well as offer even higher transmission rates.
The new service offering comes as Kinetic continues a multi-year network upgrade and expansion initiative across its 18-state footprint in which it plans to invest $2 billion (see "Kinetic by Windstream touts 1Q gigabit broadband fiber builds, new deployments in Pennsylvania and Florida"). The service provider says that it deployed nearly 81,000 miles of fiber last year alone. across the communities it serves, many of them small towns and rural areas. Kinetic says it is seeking public/private partnerships with cities, counties, and other groups as part of its expansion strategy, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
“While many of our competitors are overlooking these markets, we’re optimizing them,” said Mark Lederman, vice president of product for Kinetic. “As more homes have more devices connected to the internet, from gaming systems to streaming movies to refrigerators, families need faster speed to accommodate the demand.”
