SEPTEMBER 18, 2008 -- Prysmian (search for Prysmian) has announced a new bend-optimized fiber, CasaLight Xtreme. This fiber advances the CasaLight fiber family, which also comprises CasaLight and CasaLight Plus. The fibers exceed the specifications of ITU G.657 A and B, the company says. CasaLight Xtreme is targeted at the most demanding FTTH applications, where extreme bending radii are unavoidable.
CasaLight Xtreme supports bending radii down to 5 mm. It has been designed to withstand sharp 90-degree bends under tension and installation with staple guns when used in Prysmian specialty MDU cables.
As the name suggests, the fiber is intended only for use when extreme bend conditions are encountered. For most everyday installations the existing CasaLight family members should be sufficient, Prysmian says.
The segmentation of the CasaLight bend-insensitive fiber family, allows customers to optimize the cost of their infrastructure by using the right fiber for the right application. CasaLight, CasaLight Plus, and CasaLight Xtreme also maintain full compatibility with standard equipment, connectors, and fiber already installed in accordance with ITU Recommendation G.652.Hi.
Prysmian has continued to maintain its commitment to the environment with a fluorine free production process for CasaLight Xtreme as with all of its other fiber products.
CasaLightTM Xtreme optical fiber is now fully available in all of Prysmian's extensive range of FTTH cable products.
