JANUARY 7, 2009 -- Alcatel-Lucent (search for Alcatel-Lucent) has been selected by Axione, a company of Bouygues Construction that specializes in the management of local public broadband services for telecom operators and local communities, to further develop its networks across France.
Alcatel-Lucent says it will provide its Ethernet, IP/MPLS, and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technologies as well as professional services, including project management, network design, installation, integration, and maintenance. These technologies will enable Axione to offer high-speed triple-play services in 11 departments and cities across the country through public service outsourcing contracts.
Alcatel-Lucent's Ethernet and IP/MPLS equipment will enable Axione to offer highly reliable communication services such as Virtual Leased Lines (VLL) and Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS) to its business customers. The IP/MPLS network also forms the platform for additional advanced services with minimal further investment, say Alcatel-Lucent representatives.
In addition, Alcatel-Lucent will deliver fully tested, integrated FTTH equipment.
"Economic development and growth for our customers across the country is the goal of this project," reports Jacques Beauvois, chairman of Axione. "Alcatel-Lucent's IP/MPLS network allows us to significantly improve operations and meet our growing business needs. As well, their recognized expertise in fiber provides us with efficient access solutions to enhance customer service levels in regional communities."
"This project demonstrates Axione's commitment to bridging the digital divide, which ultimately will boost economic and social development in regional communities," adds Pierre Barnabé, vice president of Alcatel-Lucent's activities in France. "Our solutions and services will enable Axione to provide its business customers with high-quality access to voice, video, and data services while successfully addressing future requirements."
