Lanode launches POF converter for triple-play services

April 3, 2007 -- Lanode says the POF converter is ideal for service delivery because of its high speed, electromagnetic immunity, deployment ease, and low cost.

APRIL 3, 2007 -- Lanode today announced the availability of a new Ethernet media converter. The FIB-10/100POF has the ability to convert from a 10/100BaseTX copper interface to 100BaseFX fiber interface using the latest plastic optical fiber (search for POF).

According to the company, the FIB-10/100POF and the POF cable solution is light, easy to install, and is ideal for the latest converged triple play applications, including data, VoIP, and IPTV.

Plastic optical fiber offers affordable, high-end connectivity for office, home, or industrial networks, thanks to its ruggedness, its immunity to electromagnetic interference, and low cost. The FIB-10/100POF uses the SMI (Small multimedia Interface) connector for use alongside 1-mm plastic fiber and has the ability to drive 100-Mbit/sec optical signals up to 50 m.

"POF is a viable alternative to copper wire used in traditional networks, as confirmed by industry experts who agree that there is a great future for POF solutions," contends Ian Philip, technical manager at Lanode. "The longevity of FIB-10/100POF is certain as a reliable and future-proof triple play solution." 

Lanode's FIB-10/100POF currently is only available in Europe.
