France Telecom plans next-gen metro network

Nov. 1, 2002

France Telecom (FT) has chosen Atrica's Optical Ethernet System as the foundation for its next-generation metropolitan-area network infrastructure.

FT plans to roll-out a new class of cost-effective, high-speed business services, beginning with initial deployments in Paris. The Ethernet-based services will include high-speed Internet, private line services, transparent LAN services and DSL back-haul services.

Alain Roy, FT's project director for Gigabit Ethernet, said, "Carriers need to improve profitability by offering attractive new services and reducing costs."

Atrica's Optical Ethernet System combines standard 10GbE with optical switching and management capabilities to give carriers up to ten-fold better price/performance compared to other metro solutions, including SONET.
