Tellabs supplies passive optical LAN equipment for McGough’s new headquarters

April 21, 2020
Use of passive optical LAN provided flexibility, ease of use through automation, and a future-proof foundation for later communications options, including wireless.

Tellabs says it has supplied elements of its passive optical LAN portfolio to McGough for the general contractor and construction management firm’s new headquarters in Saint Paul, MN. Befitting its expertise, McGough installed and operates the passive optical LAN itself.

McGough’s headquarters project saw the transformation of a 60-year-old trucking terminal into a modern working environment as well as the addition of a new two-story wing. The space leverages an open floorplan with flexible workstations, huddle areas, numerous windows, break stations, extended ceilings, and conference rooms filled with natural light. The selection of a passive optical LAN approach to the communications infrastructure best matched McGough’s need for a network strategy that would accommodate diverse architectural requirements, construction demands, and corporate goals, according to Tellabs. Use of passive optical LAN provided flexibility, ease of use through automation, and a future-proof foundation for later communications options, including wireless.

“It is very important to us to have the ability to easily, and with the lowest possible costs and least disruption to our business, to change network technologies. Wi-Fi is a great example of a rapidly evolving technology. By building this network with single-mode fiber, and Tellabs Optical LAN, we have put ourselves in the best position to support whatever the future brings,” said Paul Boespflug, McGough’s CTO.
