Teknovus GEPON platform completes UNH-IOL IEEE 802.3ah compliance testing

August 10, 2005 Petaluma, CA -- Teknovus, a provider of EPON chipsets for the deployment of IPTV in broadband access networks, today announced the completion of third-party IEEE 802.3ah standards compliance testing for two Gigabit EPON (GEPON) chipsets used in the deployment of triple-play broadband services. The tests were conducted by the University of New Hampshire's InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL).

August 10, 2005 Petaluma, CA -- Teknovus, a provider of EPON chipsets for the deployment of IPTV in broadband access networks, today announced the completion of third-party IEEE 802.3ah standards compliance testing for two Gigabit EPON (GEPON) chipsets used in the deployment of triple-play broadband services. The tests were conducted by the University of New Hampshire's InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL).

In the testing, UNH-IOL performed a standards compliance analysis based on the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet-in-the-First-Mile (EFM) standard, which serves as an industry checklist for interoperability among telecom carriers.

"The testing we have developed to facilitate standards compliance is intense. We are very impressed with the dedication that Teknovus has shown in being the first to complete this initial round of compliance testing," adds Eric Lynskey, UNH-IOL's EFM Consortium and test event manager. "Standards compliance should be the first step for the telecom industry to achieve true interoperability."

The UNH-IOL compliance analysis covered optical line termination (OLT) and optical networking unit (ONU) chipsets for standards compliance. The testing cycle evaluated the Teknovus TK3721 system-on-chip OLT and TK3701 system-on-chip ONU chipsets in a number of operating scenarios, including single-ONU and multi-ONU performance, reliability, and usability testing. The UNH-IOL EFM Consortium provides a neutral platform for the creation of an industry-reference EPON test bed to facilitate multi-vendor interoperability testing.

Teknovus and Corecess recently announced that Korea Telecom (KT), Korea's largest service provider, selected the Corecess S5 IP multi-service access platform and 3800 series ONT, powered by the Teknovus' TK3700-series GEPON chipset, for exclusive use in the KT's mass FTTH deployment.
