May 27, 2005 Livermore, CA -- Alloptic, a developer of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (GEPONs), has introduced its Edge 200, which, according to the company, is an environmentally-hardened EPON chassis capable of delivering voice, data, and video services to homes, businesses, and multi-dwelling units.
"The small, stackable design makes the 200 an ideal choice for serving smaller or remote areas," contends Mike Serrano, director of product marketing for Alloptic. "The hardened nature of the [chassis] eliminates the need for expensive huts or environmentally-conditioned vaults."
According to the company, the Edge product family consists of carrier-class core aggregation devices that enable affordable, efficient delivery of broadband services over a fiber access network. The company says its Edge 200 chassis connects a fiber access network to a core communications network in order to deliver data, IP video, RF video, VoIP, and TDM voice services. The chassis is designed to support all of the company's optical network terminals (ONTs), enabling flexibility to serve from 64 to 500 subscribers from a single device, according to the company.
"The Edge 200 fundamentally changes the economics for delivering broadband services," concludes Serrano.
