Calix Inc. will provide its fiber to the premises (FTTP) network gear to five municipal markets.
Independence Light and Power, Telecommunications (ILP, T) in Independence, IA, plans to upgrade its hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) plant to an all-fiber network to deliver managed WiFi services to subscribers and expand the company's reach outside of the city limits. The service provider will deploy Calix 725GE optical network terminals (ONTs) and E7-2 modular access systems.
"Every week, we are adding more and more broadband subscribers who are looking for a robust and reliable broadband service," says Josh Vandenburg, network engineer at ILP, T. "By moving to the Calix solutions, we are now able to seamlessly transition to fiber, which allows us to roll out new services and fully utilize the 10 Gbits/sec ring that runs through Independence."
Four additional municipalities are working with Calix to upgrade network services. They include Rio Blanco County, CO, where the service provider will use Calix's GigaCenters, GigaPoints, and the E7-20 Access System to support an open access model with multiple retail service providers to serve the communities of Meeker and Rangely. Bellevue, IA, is transforming its iVue Fiber service to deliver high-speed broadband and television services to 2200 homes and businesses via Calix E7-2s and 700GE family of ONTs.
In Osage, IA, Osage Municipal Utilities is replacing its HFC network in favor of GPON with the help of Calix 844E GigaCenters, 803G GigaPoints, and E7-2s. Columbia Power and Water Systems in Columbia and Spring Hill, TN, has a multi-phase project underway to migrate all of its CPWS PowerNet business and residential subscribers from DOCSIS triple-play to full services using a new fiber network and Calix's E7-2. Additionally, Spring Hill will introduce full broadband services, including gigabit service, to the community.
