BroadLight unveils three-part PON solution priced at less than $70

7 April 2003 Ramat Gan, Israel Lightwave--BroadLight Inc., supplier of communication semiconductors and optical transceivers, today announced what it claims is a major milestone for reducing the cost of Fiber-to-the-Home customer premises equipment.

7 April 2003 Ramat Gan, Israel Lightwave--BroadLight Inc., supplier of communication semiconductors and optical transceivers, today announced what it claims is a major milestone for reducing the cost of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Customer Premises Equipment (CPE).

BroadLight's three-part passive optical networking (PON) solution--including burst mode transceivers, PON controllers, and software stacks for both central office and customer premises--is the result of a joint venture with an established fiber-optic vendor. That vendor will produce the PON transceiver using Broadlight's burst mode technology.

"There is consensus in the market that PON is the best technology for FTTH," contends Didi Ivancovsky, vice president of products at Broadlight. "With IBroadLight's new prices, it is now not only affordable but will also be an enabler for the technology. We are now offering a package deal of a burst mode transceiver and PON controller for less than $70Iin large quantities," he adds. "This enables a Bill of Materials cost for a CPE to be as low as $100."I A

BroadLight's offering also includes an evaluation board that integrates the three-part solution and schematics for a complete CPE, which will assist system vendors in cutting development costs and reducing time to market to about 6-9 months from initiation of an FTTH project.
