Optical Solutions Inc. supports deployment of fiber-to-the-home for voice, video and data
Huxley Cooperative Telephone Company (HCTC) announced that it has selected the FiberPath platform from Optical Solutions, Inc. for the deployment of fiber-to-the-home for voice, video and high-speed data in Iowa. Optical Solutions is a provider of fiber optic solutions that deliver voice, video and high-speed data directly to the home and community.
Beginning with a trial deployment to 15 residents in Huxley, HCTC expects to provide enhanced telephone, television and Internet services to over 3,000 residents in the coming months. Huxley's initial customers will receive standard telephone service as well as optional services including 60 channels of analog cable television and high-speed Internet data up to 8Mbps. Over time, the company anticipates offering 100Mbps data capacity, unlimited analog and digital video selections and pay-per-view services.
The selection of Optical Solutions' FiberPath platform allows Huxley to offer more than other providers of local telecommunications services that use technologies such as DSL, HFC and wireless local loop. As a complete fiber-optic solution for FTTH deployments, FiberPath encompasses three sets of equipment: a head-end bay of equipment, which can be co-located with a class 5 switch or interconnected through a GR-303 interface, a passive optical network (PON) and a customer premise node. The head-end bay sends and receives laser-driven light signals through optical fiber cables to and from a residence-mounted node via the passive optical network. The node is Optical Solutions' patented Home Universal Demarcation Point (HUDP), which converts the optical signals into electronic signals needed for subscribers' existing telephones, televisions and data modems.
