iBwave Solutions, a network design software company, has unveiled FiberPass, a software tool for planning in-building fiber-optic broadband networks. The company says that it has already signed at least one big name customer for the tool: Verizon.

FiberPass adds a fiber network option to the in-building wireless network design tools that iBwave offers to carriers and enterprises. The software streamlines the in-building fiber broadband planning, design, and deployment process, the company says. "For the last few years, we've seen that many of the large operators who use our wireless design software need a solution to help them accelerate the deployment of the FTTH networks inside buildings to keep up with customer demand. Before FiberPass, the in-building design process typically took several weeks. But with the introduction of our FiberPass solution, the design process was reduced to days," asserted Claude Echahamian, CEO of iBwave Solutions.

The company recently announced that Verizon has already put FiberPass to work. Verizon has been a user of the company’s tools for indoor wireless projects since 2008. "We've chosen iBwave FiberPass because it helps automate the FTTH in-building planning and design process. We've already seen significant gains through several successful trials in the Northeastern part of the country, deploying fiber quickly and effectively to multi-dwelling units," commented Kevin Smith, vice president – network planning, at Verizon.

Bell also has selected FiberPass for its in-building fiber network requirements after collaborating with IBwave. “The efficiency and accuracy of the FiberPass solution has contributed to the rapid expansion of Bell’s broadband network and our fast-growing Fibe TV and Internet services,” said Bruce Furlong, Bell’s vice president, FTTP Deployment & Access. “Recent software enhancements to FiberPass have helped to further accelerate our inside design cycle as we deliver Canada’s fastest Internet and best TV services to customers in apartments and condos across multiple provinces.”
