Sagemcom releases multi-gigabit, multimedia gateways to integrate 802.11ax WiFi
French communications technology developer Sagemcom has released a series of gateways to meet end-users growing bandwidth demands and allow operators to offer multi-gigabit end-to-end services. The family includes multimedia gateways as well as units for fiber and DOCSIS 3.1 applications.
The first member of the family, the Fast 5380 VDSL 35B/Gfast/FTTH/PON universal gateway, integrates Gfast 212-MHz capabilities as well as support for GPON and 802.11ax WiFi. The Fast 5380 leverages the Sagemcom SWAN software suite to support big data applications, WiFi distribution, and smart diagnostics.
The next-generation fiber gateways range includes two products that use 802.11ax WiFi technology:
• Fast 5688ax, a gateway for 10G PON (XGS-PON, 10G EPON, up to NG-PON2) that enables end-to-end 10-Gbps symmetric routing throughput
• Fast 5670, a 2.5-Gbps GPON gateway.
Finally, the Fast 3890 is Sagemcom's third generation of DOCSIS 3.1 and 32*8 gateways and is designed in a compact form factor. This product utilizes either the Sagemcom SWAN software suite or the RDK-B.
Sagemcom also offers WiFi smart extenders in dual-band and tri-band for an improved user experience. Affiliated with steering and monitoring solutions, these products provide enhanced use of the WiFi capacity and address the varying WiFi environment, the company says. The company also offers new voice control and home automation technology.
Sagemcom introduced a series of PON gateways for GPON and EPON to prepare for 10-Gig EPON in 2014 (see "Sagemcom offers GPON, EPON gateways for gigabit FTTH"). The company is using the Broadband World Forum in Berlin this week to launch the latest series of gateways, which will be on display in Booth C102.
