Caspian Networks debuts compact, high-density, 50-Gb flow-state router
March 30, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Caspian Networks, a supplier of high performance flow-state platforms for the telecommunications industry, today introduced its 50-Gbit/sec A50 flow-state router. Housing four 10-Gigabit interfaces in a single 6-RU shelf and with 800W power consumption, the router is aimed at carriers, Internet service providers, and cable companies. The company says its A50 delivers all the functionality and QoS capabilities of its larger A120 router, while supporting an AC power option.
"The A50 is the result of customer-driven demand for a more compact, lower-power version of our flagship A120, and demonstrates the flexibility inherent in our unique distributed-architecture design," remarks Brad Wurtz, president and CEO of Caspian Networks. "The A50 uses the same line and processor cards as the A120 and offers unprecedented density, upgradeability, and investment protection."
The company says the router is able to recognize and route traffic as flows of related packets, not just as individual packets, for highly effective traffic control. According to the company, based on the implementation of actual IP "flow state" in its hardware, the router allows service providers to optimize peering interfaces, implement P2P traffic control, and improve broadband access network performance, while providing efficient infrastructure for voice and video over IP, as well as other real-time services.
The router offers all the standard features of its parent A120, with up to 50-Gbit/sec, full-duplex operation (including distributed fabric, routing, and integrated management systems), a non-blocking switch architecture, and distributed processing software. In addition, the router features optional, dual 120-V AC power supplies and standard dual 48-V DC power. Other features include dual redundant application processor cards and a redundant, hot standby management system.
Optical interface support includes 1/10-Gigabit Ethernet, OC-192c/STM-64c, OC-48c/STM-16c, and OC-12c/STM-4c. The router supports BGP4, IS-IS, and OSPF routing and signaling protocols, with optional support for MPLS, RSVP-TE, LDP, PIM-SM, MBGP and IPv6.
The A50 is now available. Base system configuration pricing starts at $50,000.
The router will be on display in the company's booth 445, Hall A, at the 2005 National Show, held April 3-5 in San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center.
