August 29, 2005, Pittstown, NJ -- Keopsys has introduced a 2W (+33 dBm) un-cooled optical fiber amplifier to its line of OEM products dedicated to CATV, broadband, and free space applications. The company says its KPS-OEM-33-CATV unit is an ideal building block for system integrators, with a design specifically engineered to meet demanding noise performance, and to reduce thermal management over an extended operating temperature range. The company says the device's un-cooled pumping design feature provides among the lowest power consumptions (45W for Tcase=65C) available for such devices.

With dimensions of 240-mm x 170-mm x 38-mm (including heatsink), the device delivers an output power of 33 dBm through up to 16 fiber ports with excellent port-to-port uniformity, according to the company, allowing cable television providers to service larger networks with substantial cost savings per subscriber. The company's CATV amplifier modules with integrated power splitters, configured with 16 x 20 dBm output ports, are also available for system deployment.

The company says the OEM modules include embedded electronics, enabling full control of the optical amplifier in automatic current control (ACC) and automatic power control (APC) modes. An RS-232 computer interface and analog monitoring outputs are included as standard features.

Modules with standard specifications are available from stock; customized versions can be engineered for particular systems' requirements, according to the company.
