May 26, 2005 Minneapolis, MN -- ADC announced that its OmniReach FTTX platform is supporting an ultra high-speed fiber-optic network, dubbed "iProvo," that is owned and operated by the city of Provo, Utah. The network offers high-bandwidth video, Internet, and telephone services to the city's homes and businesses.
According to a press release, the iProvo system is being built for the long term, using public investment in the infrastructure as a means to opening the door to competitive, advanced telecommunication offerings by the private sector. The city owns the network infrastructure, while private businesses lease the system to provide "triple play" services over fiber.
"Because iProvo is owned and operated by the city, the services offered over the network by private providers will be accessible to everyone in our community. iProvo is not just a revenue generating venture, but has a broader community-development mission," explains Lewis K. Billings, Mayor of Provo.
OmniReach products in the deployment include fiber access terminals and central office cable management systems.
