OED 884 point source infrared LED suits high-end remoting, infrared links and fiber-optic communications links. The LED features an emitting surface of 50 microns in diameter, which radiates a typical output of 2 mW of 880-nm radiation at 50 mA. The spectral line half-width is 45 nm and the rise and fall times are 20 ns. Available in chip form or mounted in a TO-18 hermetically sealed glass and metal package, the device can also be mounted on a variety of substrates, including PC boards and ceramic hybrid assemblies.
