Intelect Network Technologies of Richardson, TX, recently shipped its sonetlynx digital fiber-optic multiplexer to the Federal Aviation Administration (faa) for use at the Austin, TX, municipal airport. The faa is installing fiber-optic communications networks where conventional antenna communications or instrument landing systems might interfere with air traffic control. Working through Alcatel Network Systems Inc., Richardson, TX, Intelect is providing the faa with a 10-node, sonet- lynx-based communications system for the Austin airport. The OC-1 (52-Mbit/sec) multimode/singlemode fiber system will provide voice and data communications between seven remote sites and three sites at the control tower.
