Lucent Technologies of Murray Hill, NJ, and Xylan Corp. of Calabasas, CA, recently completed interoperability tests between Lucent`s sonet equipment and Xylan`s Asynchronous Transfer Mode (atm) switches. According to Lucent, by joining its ddm-2000 multiplexer with Xylan`s OmniSwitch, carriers can quickly deliver high-bandwidth services, including atm, Token Ring, 10- or 100-Mbit/sec Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and Fiber Distributed Data Interface via sonet without the need to overlay a data services network. The data solution was expected to be available for a field trial last month.
