Nortel,

Brampton, ON, Canada, and Shaw FiberLink Ltd., Calgary, AL, Canada, have both inked and completed deals to supply each other with equipment and services. The first exchange calls for Nortel to supply its Magellan Asynchronous Transfer Mode (atm) equipment for use in Shaw`s planned atm backbone network. The resulting services will be called Lightnet-atm, a high-speed digital-switched data service provided over a single fiber-optic link, and Lightnet-Bandwidth on Demand, an atm service for customers with irregular bandwidth requirements. The equipment-provision contract runs for three years and is worth $2.5 million. Also, Shaw FiberLink has completed a fiber-optic network that links six Nortel buildings in Calgary.
