The government of Buenos Aires
will issue a tender next month for use of 5000 power lines as infrastructure for optical cables. Transba, a company split from the Argentine utility Eseba, currently controls the lines. The minimum price for such use of the power lines is estimated at $350 million. The government expects interest from both telecommunications and cable-TV companies.
