Tele Danmark to build fiber backbone in Denmark and Sweden

Tele Danmark A/S, the Danish telecommunications services group, has entered an agreement to establish a 2,100-km fiber-optic backbone in Sweden and Norway. The backbone will be connected to Tele Danmark's Danish fiber backbone and to its new 2,700-km German fiber-optic backbone.

3/21/00 Tele Danmark A/S, the Danish telecommunications services group, has entered an agreement to establish a 2,100-km fiber-optic backbone in Sweden and Norway. The backbone will be connected to Tele Danmark's Danish fiber backbone and to its new 2,700-km German fiber-optic backbone.

The combined backbones will connect more than 10 metropolitan areas in Europe. The northern European network will be part of Tele Danmark's international infrastructure, called TeamNet. The backbone will be put into service on a continuing basis and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Tele Danmark is the principal provider of a full range of telecommunications services in Denmark and holds significant interests in a range of telecom companies across Northern and Continental Europe. Domestic activities include landline and cellular telephone services, data communications, Internet, leased lines, cable television, and directory services.
