    gst Telecommunications Inc., Vancouver, WA, is billing itself as the first company to connect two competitive local exchange carriers after running a long-haul fiber-optic link between Phoenix and Tucson, AZ. gst bought Phoenix Fiber Access last year with the intention of connecting it to its Tucson operations. gst now has more than 250 mi of fiber-optic cable in Arizona. The company has also launched local telephone service in Tucson.
