Ericsson (Stockholm) signed a $32 million contract with Embratel, the Brazilian long-distance carrier, for the delivery and commissioning of an sdh network over more than 15,000 km of optical fiber. Comprised of 195 network elements and transmitting at OC-48 (2.5 Gbits/sec), the network will cover 34 districts in 14 states. The network, designed to link the south of Brazil to the north via ring topologies, will include the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Natal, and Fortaleza.
