High-bandwidth optoelectronic components

A group of optoelectronic components, including laser modules, photodetectors, and receivers, can now quadruple the bandwidth capacity of existing fiber-optic networks, to 10 Gbits/sec--the equivalent of 140,000 simultaneous phone conversations. The components are intended for use in high-data-rate telecommunications applications, such as sonet, sdh, digital video, high-speed fiber-optic data networks, and dense wavelength-division multiplexing.
