May 1, 1998

The International Telecommunication Union`s Study Group 9, which is responsible for cable-TV system standards, has made the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (docsis), developed by Cable Television Laboratories (Louisville, CO), an international standard. The new standard defines modulation and protocols for high-speed, bidirectional data transmission over cable. The standard, Recommendation J112, will enhance interactive cable-TV services by providing 30-Mbit/sec transmission. Annexes to the standard address the requirements of the European, North American, and Asia/Pacific regions.
