Optical network manager

The FM1000 optical network manager provides a common platform for installing and managing optical network functionality in access and metropolitan networks. The unit consists of a common equipment shelf with fiber management and a TL-1-based controller. The shelf houses "smart" optical cards, each supporting a specific optical capability, such as fiber-link management, protection switching, and FiberMultiplier solutions. The common platform and operations interface allows the introduction of new optical function cards to support emerging or custom optical network requirements. The unit is located at the network or at larger customer-premises nodes where optical network capability is required on multiple fiber links. At sites where only a single optical link is required, "smart" optical functions are provided by a self-contained optical peripheral module. These peripheral modules can connect to each other or to "smart" cards in a host FM1000 system.
